Book Review: Loved and Hated by Juniper Blaire

Genre: New Adult, Romance, Dark Romance

Publication Date: August 17, 2023

Rating: 3 Stars

Goodreads Blurb:

When I received the location for the Bonfire, I never imagined I would end up at the house of a champion boxer, let alone be caught in the midst of a tumultuous love triangle between his two hotheaded sons vying for my attention.

Who will I choose?

-Cole, a charming, bring-home-to-the-parents type.

Or

-Blaine, an obnoxious tattooed playboy. Who would gladly watch the world burn.

What’s even worse?

I am attending their college after swearing them off forever. Combine it with the added chaos of having their psycho ex-girlfriend as a roommate, excessive alcohol consumption, and an unwelcome stalker. Making my freshman year of college an epic and unforgettable journey.

Review:

I received an email last week that the author, Juniper Blaire, had sent me a copy of her book, Loved and Hated, which had been on my TBR. This was so unexpected and so very cool that I immediately had to open it and start the journey with Aspen, Cole, and Blaine!

Here are some of the goodies in this one you may enjoy:
– Virgin FMC
– Love Triangle
– Good Girl/Bad Boy
– Sports Romance (Boxing)
– Touch her and 💀
– Stalker

What I loved about the book:
1. This thing was exploding with delicious toxicity!!! This reminded me a lot of Beautiful Disaster, both in plot and in the overall feeling of the book. We have a bad boy that makes you shiver even though you know he is “bad for you”.

2. It had the perfect amount of sexual tension to leave the reader thirsting for more…and then we got it!!

The spice was 🥵🥵🥵 The book was chalked full of naughty good times and Blaire even gave us Ghostface chasing his girlfriend as prey for sexy times on Halloween. That was an auto bump for my rating because, fuck yes and thank you!

3. The MMC, Blaine, was so well written. He truly is what set this thing higher in my mind than Beautiful Disaster. What set him apart was his willingness to be committed to her when she said that’s what she wanted and he was overall a fantastic/romantic partner once they were linked, in my opinion. I couldn’t care less about some of the things in his past before he knew her, and I chalked up his being aggressive about her with other guys to him just being young and not in control of his emotions.

4. I actually really liked Blaine’s nemesis Sebastian. We got a little bit of his backstory and we got to see him support Aspen a bit, and I thought he was sweet in that playboy way. I would definitely read a spin-off story if his was the MMC!!!

5. I would ALSO read a spin-off story involving the parental love triangle from twenty years prior. I WANT THAT TEA SPILT!!!

What I wasn’t a fan of:
1. OH MY GOSH, what long chapters you have my dear!!! I am a short chapter whore and seeing that a chapter was going to take me 40 minutes to read was a nightmare for me personally 😬

2. Unfortunately, I didn’t like most of the characters.

Aspen was super naïve to the point of being annoying at times, which is probably my least favorite FMC characteristic, especially in college romances. I also found her really immature, especially when it came to women in Blaine’s past. Food coloring in toothpaste was a “Really?!?!” moment for me. Also, automatically assuming Blaine’s only long-term girlfriend other than her was a psycho without knowing anything about her? In the name of all that is feminism, what.the.actual.hell. We knew she had the ability to be smart and strong with how many times she straight up walked away from Blaine, but for the most part her disappointing characteristics shone more, which was unfortunate.

Aspen’s best friend Maddie was just an overall terrible person. I don’t recall a single point in the story where I thought she had any good or worthwhile qualities. However, I will hand it to the author that she was very realistic. I’ve definitely known my fair share of Maddies.

If you took Aspen’s and Maddie’s worst characteristics and wrapped them up in one person, that person would be Nicole, one of Blaine’s hookups and Aspen’s roommate. Similar to Maddie, I felt she was realistic, just not a great person.

Maddie’s roommate was the only female character I recall even liking in this book, and she was literally on page for like 3 paragraphs.

Cole was…not my favorite. I don’t want to spoil anything specific, but he’s a blonde guy in a romance book so you know she ain’t ending up with him. Also, what is it about guys in romance novels named Cole that they just turn out to be kinda the worst???

3. While the description in the book was great, the writing at times was disjointed and inconsistent. For example, we didn’t know that Blaine or Cole were into boxing until about halfway through the book, and then it became a big deal. I felt the story could have benefited from this being brought up earlier and incorporated as a plot point from the beginning.

There were also inconsistencies about where people were sitting, what they were wearing, etc. Overall, small things that weren’t a big deal especially if you don’t tend to see those things or they don’t bother you.

4. Nowhere did I see that this book would end on a cliffhanger, so I was a little disappointed that that wasn’t pointed out before I started reading. If I go into a book knowing it’s going to have a cliffhanger, I tend to read it a little differently; slower (so I can remember things for if they are key later) and extra notes are highlighted in the kindle (that I can refer back to when I read the sequel).

Final Thoughts:
If you loved Beautiful Disaster and the After series, you will probably eat this up!

Thank you to Juniper Blaire for gifting me a copy of this book allowing me the privilege to read it. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

Book Review: Contract of the Crown by Elle Lacerta

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Erotica

Publication Date: November 30, 2023

Rating: 2 stars

Goodreads Blurb:

There’s a reason why you read the fine print before signing a Royal Document in blood.

Iris Drasa, an aspiring Mage, wishes to train at the Royal Acadamy of the Arcane Arts. Too bad that’s controlled by the fearsome Vampire The Caeds, and any magic beyond the school’s tutelage is Forbidden Magic. So, when her father bets away everything the family owns, a contract is laid before her- all of their debts wiped if Iris only goes to the Academy.

What is there to lose? Well, her freedom.

The hallowed halls of the Academy come with a she’s to be given to the ruthless Vampire Prince, Rowan Caed. An easy job, right? Stay long enough to learn magic, while doing a few…tasks for the Prince. But the Prince has other plans in mind for his new pet.

Punishments, pleasure, whips and chains, and a bite or two to Spanking, Sex Slave, Regency Romance, BDSM, Bondage, Medieval Gothic Paranormal Romance, with a sprinkle of Enemies-To-Lovers throughout the series!

What I Liked:

📜 I liked the idea behind this one. I will try any romantasy with enemies-to-lovers, spicy scenes, and a bit of magic.

📜 Overall, the writing was not bad. There was a lot of promise in this series, I just wish more had come through in book 1.

What could have been better:

📜 For the first half of the book, I would say the writing was overly descriptive, to the point of distracting. There were so many details put into each sentence that I quickly lost track of what the sentence was trying to accomplish. This is far better than a book with no description, but I would definitely like to see this toned down going forward so the writing skills of the author can shine through brightly.

📜 I wanted a lot more for the worldbuilding. Vampires, a war, a magic academy, and a sex slave? I was looking for marvelous worldbuilding, but didn’t find much worldbuilding at all.

📜 I was not a fan of any of the characters. Iris seemed very weak in action though sassy in the little she did say. Rather than being intriguing or coming across as cunning, it felt very conflicting.

I didn’t like Rowan at all, and I liked his brother and father even less. I feel like Rowan is supposed to be redeemed in this book for his feelings that develop for her, but I didn’t really get authenticity from it. He was not redeemed in my eyes and I’m sad that I didn’t get to see this character development for him.

📜 I felt like chapters were missing. The pacing just didn’t make sense at some points, making me feel there was once more to the story that was ultimately taken out. If this was the case, I would be very interested in reading a longer, unedited version, especially if it delves more into the characters and the worldbuilding.

Overall

I just don’t feel this one was for me. This is probably a good introductory erotica book for those who like a bit of fantasy mixed in and want to dip their toes in the spicy waters.

If you are a fan of The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by A.N. Roquelaure (aka Anne Rice), then you will probably eat this up!

Thank you to Elle Lacerta for the advanced copy of this book. The opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

Book Review: Lost in Darkness by Gina L. Maxwell

Hi All!

I hope your week is going well!

I recently read Lost in Darkness, the second book in Gina L. Maxwell’s Lost Boys series featuring the twisted tales and dark romances of our favorite Peter Pan characters.

I read the first book in the series a little over a year ago (Check it out here: Lost and Found), completely adored it, and immediately added the second book to my TBR. But as things typically go, it took me a while to get around to this second book because I knew it was just going to crush me. Congratulation, Gina, you succeeded.

Let’s get to the specifics!

Genre:  Adult, Romance, Fairy Tale Retelling/Reimagining

Publication Date: October 29, 2019

Goodreads Blurb:

THEY CALL ME HOOK.

I’m Captain of the Pirates; a villain by design and a loner by nature.

I don’t need anyone. More than that, I don’t want anyone. Especially Officer John Darling who insists on seeing the good in everything, including me. If there was ever any good inside of me, it was snuffed out long ago.

I’ve avoided him for years, but now I need his help to save my brother’s life and take down Fred Croc, the monster from my childhood and my current employer.

Now Darling is undercover in my crew, living in my loft and forever working out shirtless. Taking Croc’s operation down from the inside is dangerous as hell, but Darling’s probing gaze and the natural way he defers to my dominant side might just be the end of me.

But I’ve lived in the dark for too long, and no amount of light can save me. Not even one as bright as Johnathan Darling.

HE CALLS ME DARLING.

I’m a Task Force Officer with the FBI; a protector of the innocent and a man in love with a villain.

Before I was even old enough to understand it, I had a crush on the broody teen called Captain Hook, following him around like a puppy and hoping he’d show me the slightest bit of attention.

He never did, though, not for years. Not until I became his only viable option for getting his crew member back and throwing Croc behind bars. Now he can’t ignore me, and he can’t hide the desire burning in his eyes when I sink to my knees, eager to serve my Captain however he needs.

But secrets are hard to keep in close quarters, and when I discover the darkness lurking in his past, eradicating the evil in Neverland is no longer my only mission. Come hell or high water, I’ll make Hook see that he’s never been the villain of this story…he’s the hero.

Review:

This book took a lot out of me and required many pick-up-put-down sessions to get through it. This was in no way because of the writing or anything negative, but because of the dark and gut-wrenching emotions Maxwell was able to evoke throughout the story. My stomach physically hurt reading this book at times from seeing all the flashbacks to Hook’s childhood as well as sitting alongside him while he battled his demons and feelings of brokenness. Not only was Maxwell able to expertly craft his insecurities and responses to them, but what really hit me was how real this could all be. Thankfully, I have never been the survivor of SA, but the fact that this story conjures up the thoughts of how realistic this situation can be, was enough to make me nauseous and pissed off at the same time.

And then came along John Darling: a white knight since they were kids, with a soft side perfect to support Hook. Not only was John incredibly smart and badass in his own right, but he was the perfect light to Hook’s darkness. At no point did he rush Hook’s trust or intimacy, at no point did he present ultimatums, and at no point did he buy into Hook’s bullshit when Hook tried to push him away; he was the ultimate loving and caring partner that Hook so desperately needed in life. Furthermore, I loved that there was this feeling that John did not save Hook, but supported him as he saved himself. That is absolutely beautiful. These two were hands down one of the best couples I think I’ve ever read.

On a lighter note, I of course loved the fairy tale connection, them knowing each other since childhood, the “villain” getting an HEA, and the spicy scenes. Everything was so exquisitely done.

I knew I would like this book, what I didn’t know was that I would love it this much.

Priest by Sierra Simone

Hi All!

This past week I read Priest by Sierra Simone. I’ve been spammed with recommendations for this book from various Facebook groups and Instagram friends, so the time had finally come to indulge in what some have described as “the spiciest book I’ve ever read” 😈

Did this one light my fire? Let’s find out!

Genre:  Adult, Taboo Romance

Publication Date: June 18, 2015

Goodreads Blurb:

There are many rules a priest can’t break.

A priest cannot marry. A priest cannot abandon his flock. A priest cannot forsake his God.

I’ve always been good at following rules.

Until she came.

My name is Tyler Anselm Bell. I’m twenty-nine years old. Six months ago, I broke my vow of celibacy on the altar of my own church, and God help me, I would do it again.

I am a priest and this is my confession.

***Priest is a standalone, full-length novel with an HEA.  For mature audiences only.***

What I liked about the book:

1. I love taboo romances! I don’t know if this is my own love for older men, my boss-in-the-streets-sub-in-the-sheets way of life, or something entirely different, but if I’m going to live vicariously through the lives of those on the page, I want it to be dirty and “wrong” and raw. This definitely hit all those buttons!

2. There was a lot of sex (which I’ll talk about later). The talking during the encounters and the true dominant acts really were fantastic. I love a well-placed s|u+ or wh0re 🔥🥵🥰

What could have been better:

1. Ok, let’s address the elephant in the room…I’m not sure what this says about me, but this is definitely not the spiciest book I’ve read. I had a lot of high hopes around this one given the spice-meter reading my smut groups on Facebook listed it as, but ultimately, it wasn’t as good as I hoped; I’ve had read spicier.

2. While I sympathized with him at first, all the internal struggles and indecision on Tyler’s point got annoying very fast. I understand, he had a hard choice to make, but I did not read this book for drama. I read it for the smut, and since that didn’t deliver, I didn’t want to have to read the bullshit monologues about self-righteousness either.

3. This book is a fantastic reason why I don’t like first person single point of view. While we got to explore the innerworkings of Tyler’s mind (more than I would like in some cases), we didn’t get any real insight into Poppy other than she was the forbidden fruit that led him astray. We were told all about her history, her education, and her decisions in life, but otherwise, there was no real character development for her in my opinion. While the story tried so hard to show Tyler as a feminist dom, by not letting us see Poppy’s POV, I feel this did more harm than good and really did ultimately just equate her to an object. I feel if we would have had even just a few chapters from Poppy’s POV, I would have felt like she was more of a person and less of a means to an end. And that bullshit epilogue does NOT count.

4. There was a lot of sex, but very little talking. I don’t like that. I don’t like reading sexual scenes where all the dude is doing is thinking. That is not going to get me there, love.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, not what I was expecting. I had higher hopes for this one.

Final Rating: 2 stars

Mid-Year Book Check In

Last year I was on maternity leave for 6 months of the year and managed to read 114 books. Going back to my high stress, time-consuming job at one of the Big 4 accounting firms (yeah, one of those lovely corporate giants that are all over the news right now for ethics issues), I figured 60 books would be a good goal for this year. That’s 5 books a month, a little over 1 book a week.

Being a recovering perfectionist, I needed to set a goal I could attain, but not be a slam dunk for me. I didn’t want to add to the stress of my life but I needed to be doing enough to keep being rewarded with “checkmarks” for how many books I read.

So where am I at as we approach this year’s halfway mark?…125 books.

____________

~All the pretty numbers~

I’m a freak in the excel sheets, so here’s some data that really got me excited:

  • What genres have I read the most so far? As no surprise to probably anyone, it has been romance, fantasy, and sci-fi, in that order.
  • What is my average rating so far? 3.864 stars, which was a bit shocking to me as I tend to think I’m a bit of a lenient reviewer. I mean, look at all those 4 star reviews!

____________

~My Favorite Books So FAR~

What I thought would be another sappy rom-com about fake dating with a celebrity twist, turned out to be a very deep and emotionally filled journey to a HEA. The writing was flawless and socially aware, the characters were deep and complex, the steam was good, and the love was better.

____________

As a sci-fi enthusiast, I was enthralled. As a book lover, I was pissed. As a compulsive overthinker, I felt recognized. Given 1984 is one of my favorite books, I don’t know why it took me so long to read Fahrenheit 451.

I loved this one so much that I picked up a graphic novel reimagining of the book at my local library’s book sale. Can’t wait!

____________

This book was technically well written, the worldbuilding was one of the best I’ve ever read, and Lukas is still my claimed future baby daddy.

____________

  • Fairy Tale Retelling: Scarred by Emily McIntire

This reimagining of The Lion King continues to live rent free in my head 3.5 months after reading it. The storyline is rebellious, Sara B is a hardcore female, Tristan is sex incarnate, and there is a definite HEA. What more could you really ask for?

Scarred was beautiful, gritty, and heart-wrenching in so many ways. It is definitely my favorite in the series so far!

____________

One of my more recent reads, I’m still thinking about this book daily.

It was beautiful, scary, relatable, and easily one of the best books I’ve read yet this year.

____________

From the relatable world ruled by a virus, the grungy feel my 90s-self loved, and the fantastic characters, this is a must must must read for any fans of teen and young adult sci-fi!

~Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far~

Hands down this is going to Survivor of the Undead by Atley Wykes. It was fantastic! It has zombies, intense action scenes, badass characters, and steamy romance. This is my favorite series so far this year!

~New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To~

Lives of the Egression by J.D. Crawford has been sitting checked out on my Kindle since January and I cannot wait to be in the right headspace to read this one! I’m predicting a 5-star read here!

~Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year~

The final installment of Zodiac Academy by Peckham and Valenti! I know absolutely nothing about it at this point, and I already know it’s going to get 5 stars from me… I just know I’m going to cry when it all ends!

~Biggest Disappointment~

I’ve only had one 1-star review this year, so this one’s pretty cut and dry. My Fiance’s Dad by S.E. Law was really not great for me.

I love writing long reviews with tons of GIFs. My entire review on Goodreads was: “There are many ways to describe the female anatomy. Sweetly creaming hole should never be one of them.” That should tell you everything you need to know.

~Biggest Surprise~

How to Fake it in Hollywood, as mentioned above!

~Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You~

ATLEY WYKES!!! I mentioned her series in the “Best Sequel” category above, and she deserves both of these recognition awards from me! I feel a kinship with this woman and I will read everything she writes from this day on. She has my undying loyalty.

~Newest Fictional Crush~

There were a lot of good choices this year, but I think I’m going to have to give this one to Alex Lacota from Survivor of the Undead (yes, that makes this 3 wins for Atley)! He has a dirty mouth, he builds motorcycles, and he was a sniper, so he’s basically perfect.

~Newest Favorite Character~

Hands down it’s Sara B from Scarred. She was a beautiful, rebellious badass and I loved her!

~Book That Made You Cry~

The book that got the closest to making me cry was Before Now by Rhianna Burwell.

This book was a lot of things: Incredibly emotional, heartbreakingly accurate, soul destroying, and many other things on par with the likes of Colleen Hoover. My heart literally hurt after finishing this book!

~Book That Made You Happy~

Rewriting the Stars by Claire Kingsley because it was the end of the series and I was so happy for Claire to be able to write again!

~Favorite Book to Film Adaptation You Saw This Year~

I read 125 books so far this year, did you really think I had time for other entertainment???

~What Books Do You Need To Read By the End of the Year~

The ARCs I’m currently signed up for are:

  1. Little Women: Mermaid Edition by Megan Lois Whitehill
  2. Last of the Talons by Sophie Kim
  3. Twice in a Lifetime by Melissa Baron

____________

So many good books so far and I can’t wait to see what the second half of the year brings! Can I keep up this streak???

Thanks for taking the time to read this! If you enjoyed my ramblings, click those like and follow buttons!

Scarred (Never After, #2) by Emily McIntire

After reading book one, I was totally Hooked on this series!

I’m not going to lie, I was afraid of starting this book for a couple reasons.

  • I thought there was no way it was going to compete with Hooked. Hooked was fantastic and edgy and sultry and just made me scream with delight. I didn’t want this one to be a bummer after Hooked was so good.
  • I am one of the few people (in the world it seems) who didn’t really enjoy The Lion King or Hamlet, or whatever else you want to compare it to. As a child of the nineties, I know this is basically blasphemy, but
Itiswhatitis

However, after tearing through this second book in the series in less than 24 hours, I have fully learned my lesson: never doubt Emily McIntire.

Scarred was beautiful, gritty, and heart-wrenching in so many ways. It is now my favorite in the series so far!

Goodreads blurb:

Once Upon A Time,
there was a king who passed.
He left behind two sons,
one beloved and one outcast.
The older of the two was set to take the throne,
but before he could he had to find a queen to call his own.
The younger one was known to be unruly and unhinged.
The chosen queen was warned to keep far away from him.
Beautiful and cunning, in the light is where she stayed.
But late at night, it was the shadowed lands in which she played.
Mistakes were made and secrets forged;
forgetting duty and her sense.
And while the new king had her hand,
her heart belonged to the scarred prince.

Scarred is a DARK Royal Romance and a complete standalone within The Never After Series (A series of fractured fairy tales inspired by our favorite villains). It is not a retelling or fantasy. It contains subject matter which may be triggering for some. Reader discretion is advised.

What I liked about the book:
1. Similar to Hooked, the references and nods to the original are so good they made me downright giddy! Loved learning who everyone was and how they were the same (or differed wildly!) from their Lion King / Hamlet counterparts.

Iunderstoodthatreference

2. Ugh….I thought I liked Captain Hook, but I was so naïve…Tristan is the man!

A wounded / scarred rebel with bad actions for the right reasons and a heart of gold for his woman. He would literally die for her and I had no doubt of that. Doesn’t hurt that he is sex incarnate.

Heshot

Also, let’s talk about his relationship with Simon (Simon = Simba). He is just the best uncle / friend / step-in-father type this boy could possibly have! And I love the ending!

3. Emily consistently writes powerful females and men who see them as their equals (and love their fierceness)!!! This is so important to me that I want to kneel at Emily’s feet in gratitude!

4. I’m a sucker for a good rebellion/uprising story, and our MCs were definitely rebels.

5. The steam was phenomenal!!!

I'llHaveWhatShe'sHaving

6. SO.MANY.GOOD.LINES!!!!

There may be distress, but I’m no helpless damsel.” – Damn right you’re not sis!

sometimes the only way to enact genuine change is by becoming part of the machine and ripping out the broken pieces yourself”

or this one of similar sentiment

If you want to burn down hell, you must learn to play the devil’s game.” – Basically, I love everything Sara B says and does

“The truth is that I have no friends, because friendships are fickle and often a waste of time.” – I feel seen….

“Sara, you aren’t here to tell us about your preferences. You’re here to be the king’s bride. All you need to do is sit down, look pretty, and let me handle things.

ExcuseMe

“His tone is deep. As if it was made in hell then woven through silk. A gentle caress that singes your senses.” – I mean, how can you NOT fall for that?!?

We never allow ourselves to care about the sheep, little lion.” – Solid advice

I feel out of control. Every single piece of me is raging to grab her, and fuck her, and brand her, and keep her, which is crazy because I don’t even want her.” – Suuuuure you don’t….

What I didn’t like about the book:
1. I don’t care enough about this to mark it down, but homeboy is lightin’ up like the Fourth of July every chapter!!! I have nothing wrong with his “recreational activity”, but I feel like every time we cut to Tristan, dude has to start smoking and it’s detailed each time. Like, I get it, you smoke pot. Let’s focus a little bit more on one oral fixation and a little less on this one.

5 rebellious stars!

Hooked by Emily McIntire

Never did I think I would be uttering these words, but Captain James Hook CAN GET IT! For real though, this book is fantastic. I love dark and twisted fairytale reimaginings, and Emily McIntire definitely delivered on all fronts.

Goodreads blurb:

He wants revenge, but he wants her more.

Once Upon A Time, there was a little boy.
His belly full of laughter, his life full of joy.
Until one day, something changed; stripped his innocence away.
The hole inside making space for the devil to come and play.
His dreams gone forever, he grew up way too fast.
An endless night of crocodiles, and watches made of glass.
He grew into a villain, the taste of vengeance on his tongue.
Craving to make his enemies pay for the misdeeds they had done.
Instead he found a darling girl, and refused to let her go.
For what better way to make the man pay, than to steal his little shadow.

*Hooked is a full-length, complete standalone and the first in The Never After Series: A collection of fractured fairy tales where the villains get the happy ever after. This is a DARK Contemporary romance (not a literal retelling and not fantasy) featuring mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences. Reader discretion is advised.*

Review:

At first, I was slightly confused because we meet Wendy, she has one brother (ok, weren’t there two?), her mother is dead (strange, but ok), and her father is…Peter.
What?AaronPaul
On top of all that, I’m supposed to believe that Hook is the good guy exacting revenge against Peter and Hook is only 5 years older than Wendy? But whatever, I rolled with it.

What I liked about this book:
1. The flow and writing are great. Characters are introduced at a good pace, new information is presented at a good pace, and the prologue is very interesting making you already feel for the “villain”

2. As someone who never got the appeal of the character Peter Pan, I love the twist in this book! For me, this is everything I wanted Peter Pan to be and it never was.

Speaking of twists, there were multiple. Instead of being annoying like I would have thought multiple twists would be, I found myself gasping for breath with each turn of events, much like Wendy if you know what I mean
WigglingEyebrows

3. I love all of the references. From obvious ones like NevAirLands airlines and Peter’s assistant Tina Belle to the name of Hook’s boat, Tiger Lily.

4. As previously mentioned, James/Hook is
Delicious
He is rough around the edges and definitely a bad guy, but at his core he has deep feelings and emotions for those he cares about and he truly sees Wendy as his equal. Would I date this type of person in real life? HELL NO. Does that stop me from swooning as I read of this fictional character. HELL NO!

5. There are some….interesting things in this book as far as the intimate scenes go. Several things that are just not my jam, but at the same time, as I read them, I found myself considering…maybe….oh no, I couldn’t….but maybe? Regardless, Hook knows how to keep a woman and a reader happy.

What I didn’t like about this book:
1. The book sets Hook up to be this man who has an excellent bullsh*t meter, yet he jumps to conclusions when it comes to Wendy’s involvement in her father’s business. Like, what?

2. I wanted more insight into Jon. He seems like a very interesting character, and then THAT TWIST!?!?! Yeah, I wanted more.

3. And as much as I didn’t really like her, I wanted more Tina Belle too. Was there something going on between her and Peter? I guess we’ll never know…..

Loved this one! 4 Stars.
